Quarter 3 Newsletter, 2024
Dear friends of the college,
Greetings in our Lord Jesus Christ! Luther Classical College has been blessed through another action-packed quarter. The closer we get to our Fall 2025 grand opening, the more impactful becomes each decision, each development, and each gift. Some of you have been supporting LCC for years, while others of you have just begun making donations. Before we share updates, we would first like to thank each and every one of you for all you have done and continue to do to make LCC a reality. Let me show you how you are making a difference.
“I desire to understand the roots of Western civilization and culture, to know the history of my fathers, and to examine their lives. ‘Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.’ Proverbs 23:22.” – Logan, Class of 2029
“I became a Lutheran because I was baptized into the Lutheran Church as an infant. I am a Lutheran today because I have studied the Small and Large Catechism, and I am convinced they adhere to Scripture. And it is for this reason that I want my great-grandchildren to be Lutheran.” – Grace, Class of 2029
These quotes are from a couple of our first seven students to be officially enrolled at Luther Classical College for the Fall of 2025. They represent well the reason we are building a college that is both distinctly Lutheran and classical. Our Lutheran high schoolers know why LCC is needed, and that is why nearly 200 of them from nearly 40 states have signed up on our pre-enrollment form and are now officially beginning to enroll.
As our administration recognizes all the young minds eager to prepare for the education offered at LCC, our Admissions Department is preparing to launch “Great Books Reading Sessions” and “Latin Tutoring” with prospective students online this September. Latin not only sharpens the mind and orders it through proper grammar and clear, effective communication, but it also provides access to “the history of [our] fathers,” enabling us to learn from works that have endured through the ages. We are excited for this new opportunity to engage with our students.
Yet before we launch these seminars, our next application window will open for even more students to enroll. Priority Admission for high school seniors graduating in Spring 2025 or prior high school graduates who have scored 78+ on the CLT, 25+ on the ACT, or 1200+ on the SAT runs August 1, 2024, through October 1, 2024. Standard Admission will begin January 1, 2025.
Our current and future students not only have a fine curriculum to look forward to (and we invite you to request a copy of our Academic Catalog if you haven’t already), but even now they have been introduced to some of their future instructors. LCC was pleased to announce earlier this quarter the hiring of:
• Dr. William Lipke as Director of Admissions and Professor of Music;
• Dr. Gene Veith as Adjunct Professor of Humanities;
• Rev. Roger Mullet as Adjunct Lecturer of Theology.
A listing for Chaplain and Dean of Students will be posted in August.
With the plan to enroll a total of 60 students for the inaugural year, the question is asked, “how will you house all those students?” We are overjoyed to announce that, thanks to the generous pledges of over two dozen sponsors from our Home Sponsorship Program, LCC has officially secured funding for its first student house!
Total funds devoted to our campus build-out have reached an astounding $2.4 million. One particularly special gift was from a dear friend who donated $1 million to help us break ground. Praise be to God for the generosity shown by all the families who have helped us raise this amount!
These funds are enabling us to move forward to complete 100% of our campus grading by the end of summer. Once this is finished, underground and surfacing work can be underway ahead of the construction of our first student house. There still remain funds in the order of $1.5 million needed to pursue our goals leading up to a single house, yet we trust that God will provide for our needs through generous supporters such as you and faithful congregations.
Meanwhile, your regular support keeps us operating at a high efficiency every day. Dr. MacPherson continues to ensure that LCC has a viable and solid path toward accreditation, Dr. Lipke is visiting more and more enthusiastic students interested in applying to LCC, Mrs. Bennick maintains a smooth handle on our finances, and Mr. Gottwalt collects and files our growing library, which is quickly becoming one of the most touching testaments of our base’s love and dedication to this new institution. For insight into our current needs in this area, you can view our reading “wish list” online at lutherclassical.org/library.
Dear friends, we are so deeply grateful for all we have received. We thank God for His mercies, which are new each and every day in our Lord Jesus. We thank our special donor who selected Luther Classical College to receive $1 million of his hard-earned wealth, so that our students can learn to know Jesus. We thank our two-dozen Home Sponsors who have helped us secure the funding for our first student house. We thank our 180+ supporting congregations, our nearly 300 monthly Patrons, our 320+ conference attendees, and all 1,300+ individuals who send us support and keep us in their prayers. God is indeed answering your prayers and using your gifts to His glory. May He keep us steadfast in His word.
We hope this update encourages you. We still have a ways to go, but we’re so happy it is together with you. Thank you again for all that you do.
